What to see in Lipari?
Lipari is not only the largest Aeolian Island, but it is also the one that offers wide variety of attractions suitable for families, couples, young and less young.
To be able to visit it entirely, it would be better to rent a scooter or a car.
In any case, the centre of the island is rich in architectural and natural wonders that are really worth seeing.
Marina Corta
- For sure it is the starting point of every experience on the island. Along its bay extends the harbour of Lipari, while behind it begins the characteristic urban area with bars, clubs, small shops and churches overlooking the sea. Absolutely worth seeing are the main square and the small streets that seem to catapult us in a surreal atmosphere and far from our time.
Church of San Giuseppe
- Overlooking the beach, dating back to ‘600 the structure is a mandatory stop for all lovers of architecture. It was built over the crypt that kept the relics of San Bartolomeo, patron saint of Lipari and protector of all seven Aeolian Islands.
Canneto Beach
- Its seafront and the pureness of the water make it one of the most beautiful beaches of the whole island. Thanks to the bars and clubs, it is perfect for both afternoon and evening walks, but also - and above all - for summer dives. The dark sand, despite it doesn’t succeed to dominate the presence of pebbles, gives even more fascinating accent to its beach full of umbrellas, deck chairs and restaurants that fill up and enliven the east coast in the hottest period.
Cathedral of San Bartolomeo
- It is the most important and representative building of the island. Built in the XVI century, the cathedral is located in the central area of the island and is particularly appreciated for the richness of its frescoes and decorations with floral motifs.
Church of the Madonna della Catena

It is a famous place, especially for the welcoming space that invites to introspection and prayer. Its strategic location is one of the strongest attractions for tourists who want to enjoy of the view offered by the height on which it is placed
Norman Cloister
- It is one of the oldest structures of Lipari, that has been able to resist the passage of the time and the different cultures that followed one another on the island. The cloister was restored in 1978, but its capitals date back to Roman times. It was built
Belvedere di Quattrocchi
- Thanks to the height on which it is located, it is one of the most beautiful panoramic sites of the Aeolian Islands. From the viewpoint you can observe the faraglioni of Petra Menalda and Pietralunga
The Thermal Baths of San Calogero
- Although the thermal baths are no longer accessible, it is still possible to visit the archaeological excavations of the thermal baths of the Greek-Roman period and an ancient Mycenaean tholos which is presented with its circular dome formed by lava blocks masterfully overlapping.
Cave of Contrada Caolino
- Its white and clayey rock was used for the manufacture of bone china. Today it looks like an abandoned mine, but its beauty lies entirely in the game of reflections and colours that are created by the contrast of the turquoise waters.
